It’s almost too much to bear to take it all in.
The unimaginable pain and suffering makes my head spin.
Sickness, brokenness, loneliness and abuse.
Only skim the surface of what we see in the news.
Someone right now somewhere is being forced to do the unthinkable.
The depth of the depravity is simply unconscionable.
It breaks God’s heart to see the darkness.
To watch His children endure this wickedness.
Enslaved to so many things and in so many ways.
Alcohol, drugs, people, power, even the latest craze.
Always planning and plotting to get the next fix.
That thing that awaits after just a few clicks.
Then when you get it – it doesn’t deliver.
The emptiness inside makes you quiver.
What will fill this bottomless pit?
This pull from within that demands we submit.
What if this tugging was from someone beyond?
Someone there waiting for you to respond?
The peace that you’ve longed for.
The wisdom to restore.
Forgiveness from what plagues you.
The power for a breakthrough.
He wants you to come near.
Through suffering to persevere.
Your character to build up.
Your hope to fill up.
To restore a relationship with God that had been broken for years.
The price was so high there weren’t enough tears.
He was not guilty yet He was whipped, beaten and hung on a cross.
While those around Him mocked, ridiculed and counted Him lost.
The shame He endured is hard to imagine.
Yet after it all He did not give in.
Yes, He did die that day it is true.
And He was laid in a rich person’s tomb.
For three days He stayed there alone in the dark.
Waiting for the time to ignite that great spark.
Just like He had done for Lazarus before.
He was brought back to life with a heavenly roar.
He emerged from that cave in glorious splendor.
And now what He asks is for you to surrender.
His name will pursue you and demand a response.
For His name above all others is firmly ensconced.
The name of Jesus continues to call out.
After thousands of years with a blissful shout.
If His name makes you shudder or stirs what’s inside.
Don’t just dismiss it and turn it aside.
He may be there waiting and calling your name.
Waiting for you to finally proclaim.
That He is your Lord and savior forever.
Even if that thought you may want to sever.
You can say it’s not true.
That I don’t have a clue.
But if I am, that won’t matter.
And there’ll be nowhere to scatter.
There is nowhere to run.
Under the sun.
Nowhere to hide.
No where, I’ve tried.
Because even though those around you may call you uncouth,
The safest place to stand is on God’s truth.
